this is my idea for my wrapping paper i think this would look good and its quite a strong mix of colours the orange goes well with the brown.

this is more the kind of thing i am going for in my poster. i  like the use of the same colours and how they overlap each other.

this is the style of work from neville brody that i have tried to work from to design my poster. i like the silhouette and the edgy cut outs of the people.

i found the feedback on our last lesson exteremly helpful. it built my confidence up a lot as i thought the feedback was positive. a few points were made about my poster design and i could agree with the comments that were made. i have to open it as a A3 size page and change some of the content.
i think i am going to struggle with the essay as i haven't found that much inspiration from any of the design periods and i find it very hard to write essays especially if i cant find an interest in it.

this is one of the first pieces that i have tried to copy from neville brody own work i have based it on one of his pieces of work but used different colours words and his name as the main focal point.

here is another piece of work that i have based around neville brody own work. i like this alot but i do not feel that it would be suitable for my time capsule.

this is one of neville brody pieces that has inspired me alot. i am interested in trainers and nike so i would like to have a final poster like this.
time capsule.

starting our new project i have been looking into what design period that i want to do. at first i was very tempted with the american 40s and 50s period i liked alvin lustig, but there wasnt that much else that inspired me. i really liked the russian revoltuion posters the sternberg brothers looked really good.

my final choice which i thought i could achieve the best is POMO (post modernism) at first i really liked alot of david carsons work and the handmade look but i have decided to go with neville brody i feel that i will get the best results out of this choice.

overall i didnt get inspired by any of them that much but i feel that my decision is a good choice and i will try my hardest to get the best results.

i thought it would be a good idea to advertise another product of the cereal so i did cereal bars.

my front had alot of negative space on it so i first made a moon i had it small in the corner but thought it would look better bigger and in helped take up space. then i made the bowl and the cereal in it. then the text giving information about whats in each bowl. i thought this was all relative information so i was pleased and it managed to fill up alot of negative space.

the back of my box i decided to have a game, i made the word search and i had a couple of real words in it but most of it was just me typing anything. i did half then copied and pasted it i didnt think that it was too important to do a proper one. i traced the space ship from one of the Daft punk's music video's.

for the nutrition information side of the box i i first tried to hand trace it but then i decided to just do the whole side from eye. i copied all the information from the side of one of the cereal box's that i researched in my sketchbook, i was very pleased with this part of my box.

after getting my name out of the way i focused on getting my design for the character good. i got an image from goole images and i hand traced it. after this i started adding the colours and features. i left it looking like it was drawn with pens because i wanted to make it look like it was from a comic strip.

i have used a comic like font for my name on the cereal mainly because i have based my character and the main aspects of the design on superheroes. i thought this could be a good selling point if the cereal was being sold to children.

this is my final and finished heading for my cereal box.

after realizing that i can make fonts better than they come i have looked into some more type for my cereal box and i have edited them to the way that i want them. these are a few examples of what i have come up with.

this is a first design that i did i want to use metallic colours and i want to make up a few pallets for my deigns and stick to the colours chosen.

this is more of a design that i am going for. i want to have a futuristic look for the main logo mainly because i think this appeals to children as these are my main target audience. i have looked at the ricicles packets alot this is what i would like to base them around.

Ive been looking into different types of typography different colours going together, if they suit or just not go. ive been looking at fonts on www.dafont.com. here are some examples that i have made.

cereal boxes

cereal boxes vary mainly just with the graphics on the boxes, they change with the age limits and the healthiness of the cereal. for kids they would have a cartoon character on the box or maybe a character from a children's TV programe. for an adult they would have the picture of the cereal on the box it would say how healthy how much less fat there is and so on. then there are family cereals which would be like wheatabix and the adverts on TV would always be about the family sitting at the breakfast table enjoyign the cereal.
i am more interested in designing a cereal for children, i think i would enjoy this more becuase of using the colours maybe making a charcarter and making a good heading.

fruit loops are an american cereal i am not to sure if you can get them over here the only time ive had them are when my friends mum has brought them back for me from the states. the box is very colourfull this definatly will apeal to children and make them want to buy them. the character on the front of the box will also apeal to children its a nice colourful bird it has a big smile on his face and looks happy. the typography on this cereal box isnt that great the logo has used the bits of the cereal in with the name as O's.

this cereal is for the older generation, special k is a healthy cereal and on each box they advertise how slimming the cereal is and how you can loose weight in the different ways. this is most defiantly how they make their sales. their logo is very good and is a strong point in advertisment its a great logo and catches the eye very well.
washing powder and soap boxes

first i am going to look at some examples of washing powder and soap boxes.

these are soap boxes from a spa each is a different flavour there is lavender, lemon, orange etc. you can see that these would be easy to make and you would be able to make a lot in a short amount of time. they are very basic graphics but these would sell to the right people, i would think the market from these soap boxes are woman from 25 - 50, the basic design and colours gives me this idea. the packaging is quite straight forward i think it is called the reverse tuck which is a simple design any one could put them together and you can buy them in big quantities for cheap.

from looking at different washing powder boxes i have decided that they all look very similar and i think the main thing that effects the difference of them is the price. each box has the make in bold and they make it as big as they can across the packaging, they do this so they get noticed more than another make. each make has its own little caption but they all are tyring to get the same message across to the public. each one is "long lasting freshness" or "extra soft all day" these arent actual quotes just what i hear and everyone hears.
Initial Research

this is the start of my research into the new project where we have to design either a soap, washing powder or cereal box. i will keep an update of my work on this blog and also in a sketchbook where i will be looking more into the actual design of the product through skectches and drawings.

i first want to look into all different types of packaging at this point i would like to focus on cereal boxes rather than soap boxes or washing up boxes. i like the idea of cereal boxes mainly because the use of colours, typography and the characters which could be used. i want to get a lot more familiar with typography, lettering is something i am interested in and i want to spend some time researching it.
i think that colours are very important on any type of packaging they are there to capture the eye of the buyer, i will look at different colours and research them in various ways, i would like to look at Adobe Kuler to see different colour pallets, i will also try and find my own colour pallets i will look at comics, cartoons and other types of illustrations to see if i can get the right colours.

this is a similar picture to what i have in mind i would like to do maybe a day and a night shot i really like the idea of using a flash gun i think it would make the picture alot more dramatic and give the image a good feel.

this is a panorama from a cliff top and i would like to capture one like this, because i like the idea of showing a lot of space i think this would work very well
i want to do some work in different landscapes. my ideal areas would be in a wood at night, somewhere high up and in a derelict location. i have some ideas where to take these but am not sure if i can get to them easily. i would like to take photos of a quarry of a cliff or steep hill and woods around where i live.

initial research

i am going to first look into different panoramas and QTVR to give myself an idea for the images i want to take. I like the idea of using flash in my panorama i just have to decide of some suitable places to use this.

The best way to capture panoramic photography is to use a wide angle/fish eye lenses this way you can capture much more of the picture compared to a standard lenses. It will capture a large area and then you can stitch them in photoshop to make singular images.

QTVR stands for quicktime virtual reality and this is a singular picture that you watch in quicktime player but you can go 360 degrees round and you can zoom into to certain areas to get a better feeling and understanding of a place or image.

"in its most general sense, panorama is any wide view of a physical space. it has also come to refer to a wide-angle representation of such a view - whether in painting, drawing, photography, film/video, or a three-dimensional model. further, the motion picture term, pan or painting, is derived from "panorama"
